BATTLE OF SAMMEL (SUMEL GIRI)
BATTLE OF SAMMEL (SUMEL GIRI): WHEN 8000 RAJPUTS CREATED HAVOC ON 80,000 AFGHANS OF SHER SHAH SURI: FORGOTTEN MARTYRDOM OF JAITA RATHORE AND KUMPA RATHORE
“I would have almost lost the Kingdom of Hindustan only for a handful millet.” These words were told by Sher Shah suri after Battle of Giri-Sumel.”
The history of India has been a witness, whenever any foreign invaders have attacked the motherland, the Rajput warriors here have sacrificed their lives for the motherland. One such war is giri_sumel_war.
In 1543, Sher Shah set out against Marwar with a huge force of 80,000 cavalry. Maldev Rathod had come to fight with his huge army but Sher Shah became a victim of Suri’s conspiracy, due to which he doubted his Jaita Rathore and Kumpa Rathore and they returned with their army but Jaita and Kumpa along with their brave warriors went to war.
Due to the darkness of the night and the inaccessible road, the warriors lost their way, as a result, Jaita-Kumpa, including 5000-6000 warriors, came to fight in front of Sher Shah Suri’s army.
These handful of warriors killed about 35000-40000 soldiers of Sher Shah Suri. In this war, all the brave warriors of Marwar who were present in the battle were killed. According to jodhpur_ri_khyat, the list of the major warriors who got martyrdom in this war is as follows–
